School of Photoelectronic Engineering holds three undergraduate majors: “Measurement-Control Technology and Instrumentation”, “Photoelectric Information Science and Engineering” and “New Energy Science and Engineering”. It consists of 6 internal departments: Department of Measurement-Control Technology, Department of Photoelectronic Engineering, Department of New Energy Engineering, Central Laboratory, General Office and Student Affairs Office. There are 32 teaching classes and more than 1,100 students. At present, more than 2,000 undergraduate graduates are engaged in technology development, engineering application, manufacturing, operation and maintenance, and quality management in various enterprises and institutions in the fields of photoelectronics and new energy. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates has exceeded 98%.
The college currently has 61 in-service faculty members. Academician Gao Wei of the University of Auckland, New Zealand is the honorary dean of the college and distinguished professor. 47 among the full-time teachers hold PhD degree and 19 have senior title, including 5 professors (1 second-grade professor). One of them is entitled with “young expert with outstanding contributions in Jiangsu Province”. There are 10 person-time was selected as the provincial “333 Talent Project”, including the provincial “six talents’ summit” high-level talents and the provincial “Qin-Lan project”.
The college has always adhered to the school's orientation of facing the grassroots, serving the local and is aimed to cultivating high-quality applied engineering and technical talents with innovative spirit and practical ability that meet the needs of local economic and social development. Measurement-Control Technology and Instruments is a major specialty of Jiangsu Province and a specialty of college. The two majors of Photoelectric Information Science and Engineering and New Energy Science and Engineering are new engineering majors for strategic emerging industries. The photoelectronics teaching and experiments center is a demonstration center for experimental teaching and practice education in Jiangsu Province. In recent years, the College has continuously improved the application-oriented talent training model, optimized the personnel training system, and strengthened the construction of majors, courses, and teaching materials. The results of the teaching reform have two times won the first prize and the second prize of the Jiangsu Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award.
The College continues to strengthen discipline construction, scientific research and social services. The Optical Engineering discipline is a key subject of the college. It has a public technology service platform for new energy industry in Jiangsu Province, a collaborative innovation sub-center for photovoltaic display in Jiangsu Province, a key laboratory for photoelectronic materials and devices in Changzhou, and an international joint laboratory for new energy materials in Changzhou (co-built with the University of Auckland, New Zealand). It includesteaching and research equipments such as magnetron sputtering equipment, X-ray diffractometer, semiconductor characteristic analysis system, scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), solar cell quantum efficiency measurement system, digital holography and information security integrated experimental system, photobioradiation safety spectrum analysis system, film thickness gauge as well as integrating sphere comprehensive test system. In the past three years, the college has undertaken 9 national-level scientific research projects, 10 provincial-level scientific research projects, 8 municipal-level scientific research projects and more than 30 technical development projects for enterprises and institutions. Relying on a good scientific research platform and strong scientific research capabilities, the college can provide support and service for technological innovation and skill training of enterprises and institutions in following aspects: conduct non-destructive testing of mechanical and electrical products, quality control and improvement of production processes, audit and certification of enterprise quality systems, testing and analysis of new energy materials, development of new thin-film solar cell technologies, and new energy equipment and system development, LED chromaticity, photobiosafety, light efficiency, illuminance distribution and LED junction temperature detection.
The college actively explores a new mechanism for talent cultivation that deeply integrates teaching work with student affairs. It focuses on building an all-round, whole-process, all-round education environment, and promotes with full effort the extra-curricular stepped education practice, which in all directions exercises and improves students’ overall qualities through cultural activities, theme education, community activities, social practice, volunteer service, and technological innovation. Relying on the resources of enterprises, industry and alumni, a stable employment base and an employment network inside and outside the province have been established, which contributes to build a long-term employment mechanism to ensure high-quality employment for graduates. In the past three years, there are more than 700 students who have received scholarship at the school level and above, and more than 50 students were awarded in various disciplines above the city level. The postgraduate admission rate is stablized at around 20%. Many students have been admitted by Nanjing University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Kyoto University of Japan for further education.
At present, based on the development of a new blueprint for One goal, Two characteristics, Four major strategies and Seven projects determined on the college Third Party Congress, the college is focusing on promoting the high-quality development of various college activities, with the strategy of “integration of disciplinary profession, integration of teaching and research and Integration of teaching and cultivating students, it strives to make an exquisite distinctive college, and make its contribution to build a distinctive high-level application type local institution.
